Sixth Years Helping out in the Portland Community
Children's Book Bank - Imogen
Dear Childpeace families,
My name is Imogen, and I am a student in the Hawthorn Room. For my sixth grade service project, I am looking to aid an organization called the Children’s Book Bank, which provides reading material for low income families that are not otherwise able to offer this for their children. They are a nonprofit, so they accept donations of new and gently used books, as well as materials for cleaning and repairing. I am looking to hold a drive, and I will be accepting donations of age appropriate literature for preschool to middle school kids.
Below are some of the listed requirements for donations so that the bank is able to re-home them:
Spanish language books
books about numbers, colors,
animals, shapes, and words
books with yellow pages
musty or damaged books
ex-school library books
books for adults
books for high school students
kindles, tablets, or e-readers
Although any and all donations are much appreciated, if possible, books featuring main characters of color are ideal, seeing as many of the children they serve identify as children of color. The bank is full of chapter books for the time being, so they request that donations be of picture or board books.
Click this link for a list of diverse books that the bank has provided.
Donations may be brought to school with your child, and they can drop them off in the Hawthorn Room. We will be accepting donations next week and the week after.
Even the smallest contribution will help a child somewhere to realize that they matter, and doesn’t every child deserve that?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
